Village of Shorewood to continue small business relief program

First round of relief helped 25 local small businesses in the village

The Shorewood Village Board voted to continue its CARES Small Business Program with a second round of funding.

Last November, the village launched the program to provide direct payments to small businesses which had been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a news release. The original $350,000 allocation provided support to 25 businesses with funds from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security, or CARES, Act.

Vic Howard, the owner of TCBY, said receiving assistance helped him extend his lease in the village by another five years, according to the release.

The village will use an additional allocation of $200,000 to target those small businesses that are ineligible or have been denied funding through the Paycheck Protection Program.

Applications for this round of relief will continue until April 18. Businesses interested in Shorewood’s CARES Small Business Relief Program should visit the village’s website for more information and to apply online.

The village dedicated nearly $650,000 to support Shorewood businesses through the pandemic including both rounds of its CARES program and fee waivers for business licenses and registration, and a reduction of video gaming renewal fees.
