Motorists on Interstate 80 will see lane closures this weekend for work on the highway.
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced in a news release the closures will start, weather permitting, on Friday. Major travel delays are anticipated and motorists are encouraged to find alternative routes.
The lane closures are scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. Friday and will last until 5 a.m. Monday on eastbound I-80 between Wheeler Avenue and Richards Street.
At least one eastbound lane will remain open at all times, IDOT said. The ramps and westbound I-80 lanes will remain open.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow for extra time for trips through this area, the agency said. IDOT also urged drivers to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zone and obey posted speed limits.
