Downtown Joliet artists selected

Five commissioned pieces of art will be on display this summer

The Joliet City Center Partnership has selected five local artists to create art to be displayed downtown this summer.

The selected artists are Angelica Aguilar, Kelly Bartels, Dante DiBartolo, Erick “Roho” Garcia, and Mary Lynn Maloney.

Each work is to be completed by July 12 and installed in various spots downtown, the City Center Patnership said in a news release. Artists will receive $1,000 commissions each for their work.

The program is a collaboration between the CCP and the city of Joliet Arts Commission.

Artists submitted proposals that highlighted the cultural heritage of Joliet. Special consideration was given to proposals that focused on a component of the city’s industrial heritage. Selected pieces ranged from sculptures to paintings.

“We’re thrilled by the submissions we received and choosing just five to commission was extremely difficult,” said CCP Marketing and Events Manager Lauren Las.

A raffle of the individual pieces will be conducted this summer, and proceeds will be donated to the Arts Commission for future projects. Raffle tickets will be on sale in July, and winners will be drawn at the CCP’s “Tunes & Brews on 66” event on Sept. 25.
