A 21-year-old man was shot in the leg near South Eastern Avenue and Washington Street, police said.
About 7:35 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to a residence in the 500 block of Dover Street for a report of a man who had been shot, Joliet police Sgt. Dwayne English said.
Officers arrived and determined a 21-year-old man said that he heard gunshots from an unknown direction while he was near South Eastern Avenue and Washington Street, English said.
The man was struck in the leg, English said.
“The victim was driven to Silver Cross Hospital by a friend but left the hospital and arrived on Dover Street,” English said.
An emergency crew with the Joliet Fire Department arrived in the 600 block of Dover Street and took the man to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in good condition, said Joliet Fire Chief Greg Blaskey.
Blaskey said the emergency crew found the wounded 21-year-old man sitting in a vehicle in the driveway of a home, Blaskey said.
The man said had been shot approximately and hour and half earlier, Blaskey said.
The Joliet Police Department is investigating the incident.
English said there was no indication the shooting was related to another incident the same day where a 25-year-old and a 2-year-old were wounded in shooting on Luther Avenue.
