Romeoville woman accused of selling fake Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Chanel merchandise

Woman charged with unauthorized use of trademark or name

A Romeoville woman was briefly jailed after police alleged she sold handbags and purses that were fraudulently branded as Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Chanel products. The arrest of Elizabeth Andrade, 42, of the 200 block of Hayes Avenue was the result of an investigation conducted by the Romeoville Police Department.

On May 24, Romeoville police received assistance from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to obtain a search warrant for Andrade’s residence during the course of the investigation, Romeoville Deputy Police Brant Hromadka said.

“The search warrant was regarding the illegal sales of counterfeit purses and handbags in violation of the Illinois Counterfeit Trademark Act,” Hromadka said.

Andrade is accused of selling the items online without the permission of the trademark owners of Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Chanel, Hromadka said.

On July 8, Judge Sarah Jones signed a $75,000 warrant for Andrade’s arrest on three charges of unauthorized use of a trademark or name.

Andrade was charged with intent to sell 91 Louis Vuitton items, 37 Chanel items and 33 Gucci items without the permission of the trademark owners, Hromadka said.

On Monday, Andrade appeared in court with her attorney, Cosmo Tedone, who successfully argued for a lower bond, court records show. Andrade’s bond was reduced to $10,000.

Andrade subsequently was taken to the Will County jail and released a few hours later when she posted 10% of her bond, court records show.

Andrade is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 19 to determine whether there is probable cause that she committed the crimes she is charged with.
