Inmate spat in 1 guard’s face, head-butted another: cops

Will County jail inmate charged with aggravated battery

A Will County jail inmate was charged with felonies after he spat in one guard’s face and head-butted another, police said.

On Tuesday, Deshaun Cockream, 22, of Joliet was in his cell at the jail when he spat in a guard’s face, according to Will County sheriff spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer.

“No reason was given,” Hoffmeyer said.

The next day, Cockream was charged in connection with a June 5 incident, she said.

During that incident, a guard was escorting a handcuffed Cockream to a different pod, Hoffmeyer said.

“Upon arriving to his cell, Cockream intentionally swung his head with force into the correctional officer’s face,” Hoffmeyer said.

Cockream was uncooperative during an interview about the incident, she said.

Cockream was charged with aggravated battery in connection with both incidents and his bond was increased to $257,000.

Cockream has been in jail since June 3 after he failed to appear in court on May 14 for a misdemeanor case, court records show.

He was charged with criminal damage to property after he broke the window of a Ford Fusion, records show.
