New Lenox man arrested on child porn charges

Man investigated by Will County Sheriff’s Office

A New Lenox man was arrested on child pornography charges and released from jail after he posted bond.

At 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, Joseph Balding, 29, of the 1000 block of Shagbark Road was arrested on charges possession of child pornography and taken to the Will County jail.

Balding was investigated by the Will County Sheriff’s Office.

“Sheriff’s detectives received a cyber-tip on March 1, 2021, from the Illinois Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force,” sheriff officials said in a news release. “The tip was related to a New Lenox individual who was potentially sharing and uploading multiple images and videos of child pornography.”

The investigation led detectives to identify Balding as the suspect, police said.

“Balding was brought in for questioning where he made several statements implicating himself,” sheriff officials said.

Balding’s residence was served by sheriff’s deputies and several electronic devices were collected and forensically analyzed, police said.

Following the investigation, Judge Derek Ewanic signed a warrant for Balding’s arrest that carried a $100,000 bond.

At 6:25 p.m. Thursday, Balding was released from jail after he posted 10% of his bond.
