Bolingbrook man charged with attempted murder of relative

A man has been charged with attempting to murder a relative by stabbing him with a knife in Bolingbrook.

At 4:05 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to the 700 block of Ayers Street for a report of a stabbing, according to a Bolingbrook police news release.

When the officers arrived, they found two men on the front lawn of a residence and one of them was tended to by a bystander for reported stab wounds, police said.

The other man was identified by witnesses as Frederick Martin, 26, police said. Court records show Martin lives in the 700 block of Ayers Street.

The victim was treated by paramedics with the Bolingbrook Fire Department and taken to a hospital, police said.

“The initial investigation has revealed that this appears to be an isolated domestic incident and the victim and offender are related,” police said.

The Bolingbrook police investigations division responded to the scene and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

Martin was arrested, taken to the Will County jail and charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated domestic battery, four counts of aggravated battery and unlawful use of weapons.

A criminal complaint filed against Martin alleged that he intended to kill the relative and he “knowingly performed any act which constituted a substantial step toward the commission” of first-degree murder by stabbing the relative with a knife.

The complaint further alleged Martin caused “great bodily harm or permanent disability or disfigurement” to the relative, who is 60 or older, by stabbing him with a knife.
