Man arrested after causing disturbance at Joliet Planet Fitness: cops

Police said man refused to wear a mask at the gym

A Rockford man refused to wear a mask at Planet Fitness in Joliet and he was arrested after he caused a disturbance at the gym, police said.

About 7 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to Planet Fitness, 2852 Plainfield Road, about a disturbance, according to a Joliet police news release.

When the officers arrived, they determined that Guy Irampaye, 20, of the 1600 block of Evergreen Street was refused to wear a mask as requested by employees and was causing a disturbance, police said.

He then refused to leave the premises, police said.

“Irampaye swung at a male employee and knocked the phone out of his hand as he attempted to dial 911,” police said. “Irampaye then shoved a second male employee in the chest at which time Irampaye ran through the gym and damaged a rear door by forcing it open.”

Joliet police officers and a Rockdale officer who was in the area had encountered Irampaye, who refused officers’ commands to submit to an arrest, police said.

“Irampaye attempted to flee from officers but was quickly placed into custody after a short struggle,” police said.

Irampaye was arrested on probable cause of aggravated battery, aggravated resisting a police officer, criminal damage to property and resisting a police officer.

About 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, he was taken to the Will County jail.
