Officers found a gun under the pillow of a Joliet teen who was treated by paramedics responding to a report of a possible drug overdose, police said.

About 10:35 p.m. Friday, officers went to a residence in the 3200 block of Price Court, which is in a subdivision between Houbolt Road and Interstate 80.

Officers were called to assist paramedics with the Joliet Fire Department for a report of a possible drug overdose, Joliet police said in a news release.

When the officers arrived, they saw Dominick Martinez, 18, of Joliet on a bed and receiving treatment from paramedics, police said.

“Officers observed the handle of a firearm protruding from under Martinez’s pillow. Officers recovered this firearm,” police said.

Martinez was taken to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. After he was released from the hospital he was taken to the Will County jail, police said.

Martinez was arrested on probable cause of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of ammunition and having no firearm owner’s identification card.

Online court records did not show any formal charges filed against Martinez as of Monday.

Martinez was released from jail on Saturday.
