A Wilmington man died from injuries he suffered in a car crash in Joliet.

John Mcdade, 75, was pronounced deceased at 9:05 p.m. Thursday in the AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center emergency room, according to the Will County Coroner’s Office.

Mcdade was the driver of a vehicle that collided with another vehicle at the intersection of North Larkin Avenue and West Douglas Street, coroner officials said.

Mcdade was extricated from the vehicle, Joliet police said in a news release.

At the hospital, Mcdade had “unfortunately succumbed to his injuries,” police said.

A 72-year-old passenger in Mcdade’s vehicle and the 21-year-old female driver of the other vehicle were taken to St. Joe’s hospital with serious injuries, police said.

A preliminary investigation showed that the 21-year-old woman was heading south on Larkin Avenue and approaching Douglas Street when her vehicle “lost control and entered the northbound lanes of North Larkin Avenue,” police said.

“Her vehicle then collided head on into a vehicle that was northbound Larkin Avenue in the curb lane occupied by a 75-year-old male driver and 72-year-old passenger,” police said.

Joliet police spokesman Sgt. Dwayne English said Thursday that Mcdade had been taken to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood but it was actually the 21-year-old woman who had been flown to that hospital.
