Nico Espinoza put on a clinic for Lincoln-Way Central as the Knights trounced Aurora Central Catholic, 8-0, in boys soccer Tuesday in New Lenox.
Espinoza beat the ACC keeper on four occasions in the rout, while Eddie Rafacz scored twice and Zach Davis and Andrew Madon added one goal each. Johnny Roussakis had three assists, Davis had two, and Rafacz and Drew Fornnarino each had one assist. Ryan Marsalak earned the shutout in goal.
Joliet Central 3, Oswego East 0: At Joliet, the Steelmen opened their Southwest Prairie Conference schedule with a victory.
Coal City 8, Wilmington 1: At Coal City, the Coalers picked up a decisive Illinois Central Eight Conference victory over Wilmington.
Luke Hawkins and Alex Baudino score two goals apiece for Coal City, while Craig Alstott, Owen Christopher, Nathan Elberts and Timi Shebani scored one goal each. Hawkins, Alstott and Christian Micetich had assists, and Colin Hart made four saves for the Coalers (3-1).
Lincoln-Way West 6, Bremen 1: At New Lenox, the Warriors picked up a comfortable win at home behind a hat trick from Ross DeGroot.
Ian Webber added two goals, and Anthony DeSilva scored once.
Plainfield East 3, Minooka 1: At Minooka, Plainfield East dropped the home squad to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in Southwest Prairie Conference play.
Ben Wolcott scored Minooka’s only goal in the loss.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Gardner-South Wilmington 2, St. Anne 0: At Gardner, the Panthers made quick work of St. Anne in a River Valley Conference win, taking down the Cardinals, 25-6, 25-12.
Colby Grieff led the way with six kills, five aces and a block, Hannah Frescura had nine assists, and Taylor Conger had one dig and four aces in the victory.
Plainfield Central 2, Lincoln-Way Central 0: At Plainfield, the Wildcats defeated the Knights, 25-23, 25-16.
Kinsey Bakhaus had 12 kills and seven digs in the win for Plainfield Central, Jenny Shook had 21 assists, and Cailyn Miller added eight digs.
Nicole Connolly had six kills and three digs for L-WC, Alyssa Teske had seven assists and two kills, and Kiera King had five assists and two kills.
Coal City 2, Peotone 0: At Peotone, the Coalers opened their Illinois Central Eight Conference schedule with a 26-24, 25-18 win over the Blue Devils.
Mia Rodriguez had six kills, two digs, two blocks and an ace in the victory for the Coalers, Grace Norris had 11 digs, and Addyson Waliczek had five assists and four digs.
GIRLS TENNIS
Lincoln-Way West 7, Bolingbrook 0: At Bolingbrook, the Warriors improved to 3-0 on the season with a commanding road victory.
Aubree Schultz, Morgan O’Neill, Jess Weaver and Kristen Shepard all won their singles matches for West, while the teams of Grace Denton and Sarah Fuchsgruber, Cate Gerl and Hannah White, Megan Klee and Madison Wasko as well as Ashley Lee and Halie Forsythe earned doubles wins.
BOYS GOLF
Bradley-Bourbonnais quad: Lockport improved its record to 5-0 with a low score of 154 at Big Run Golf Course.
The Porters finished comfortably ahead of Lincoln-Way West, which took second with a 170. Lockport’s Joey Sluzas took medalist honors with a 36, defeating West’s Aiden Healy in a tiebreaker after Healy also shot an even-par 36.
GIRLS SWIMMING
Lincoln-Way West triangular: At New Lenox, the Warriors came out on top in a triangular meet with Bolingbrook and Homewood-Flossmoor.
West piled up 109 points in the victory, highlighted by wins from Sydney McGann in the 50 freestyle, Olivia Gonda in diving, Madalyn Witt in the 100 freestyle, Paige Barkoozis in the 500 freestyle, Bella Cichon in the 100 backstroke and Olivia Bulow in the 100 breaststroke.
Lockport 112, Lincoln-Way Central 74: At New Lenox, the Knights suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the visiting Porters.
Abby Hawksworth was a highlight for Central in spite of the loss, winning diving with a score of 251.6 and Sophia Ewanic came out on top in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2 minutes, 6.19 seconds.
