Sage Mardjetko put together a postseason gem for Lemont on Tuesday, striking out 17 while allowing only one run on two hits in a 3-1 Class 3A Lemont Sectional semifinal win over Providence in Lemont.
Mardjetko also picked up a pair of hits, including a double, and drove in a run in the victory, while Emma Kucharski added a triple, one run scored and one RBI.
Nicole Mucha took the loss in the season-ender for the Celtics, allowing three earned on six hits and three walks over five innings.
Neuqua Valley 11, Plainfield North 1: At Naperville, the Tigers’ season came to a close in a one-sided Class 4A Yorkville Sectional Semifinal loss to Neuqua Valley.
Minooka 7, Pekin 6: At Minooka, a four-run sixth inning saved the day for Minooka in a narrow win in the Class 4A Minooka Sectional semis.
Anna McClimon, Chloe Kohnhorst and Peyton Lowden knocked in two runs apiece for Minooka, and Allie Timm hit a solo home run.
Joliet Catholic 11, Beecher 1: At Beecher, the Angels disposed of the perennially dangerous Bobcats in unceremonious fashion, putting together a 10-run victory.
The Class 2A Manteno Sectional semifinal win advances JCA to the sectional title game against Manteno on Thursday.
Normal U-High 3, Seneca 0: At Seneca, the Fighting Irish saw their season come to a close with a loss at home to U-High in the Class 2A Bloomington Central Catholic Sectional semifinals.
Ottawa Marquette 13, Dwight 7: At Dwight, the Trojans were unable to stop Marquette’s bats in a season-ending loss at home in the Class 1A Newark Sectional Semifinals.
BASEBALL
Coal City 14, Reed-Custer 9: At Braidwood, the Coalers earned a huge rivalry win over the Comets with their season on the line.
The win advances Coal City to Wednesday’s Class 2A Sectional semifinal matchup with Manteno in Manteno.
Illini Bluffs 6, Gardner-South Wilmington 4: At Gardner, the Panthers saw their season come to a close in the Class 1A Regional championship round.
GIRLS SOCCER
Andrew 3, Lincoln-Way East 1: At Orland Park, the Griffins’ season came to an end in the Class 3A Sandburg Sectional Semifinals.
Normal Community 2, Minooka 0: At Normal, Minooka’s season came to a close in the semifinal round of the Class 3A Normal Community Sectional.
Lemont 3, Morris 1: At Lemont, Lemont earned a spot in Friday’s Class 2A Lemont Sectional championship match with a win at home over Morris.
Lemont will take on the winner of Wednesday’s sectional semifinal tilt between Joliet Catholic and Oak Forest.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Lockport 2, Plainfield South 0: At Lockport, the Porters notched a regional semifinal victory is short order, taking down the Cougars 25-20, 25-14 at home.
Matt Arens led the way with 10 kills in the victory, Carter Steffgen added five kills, Bryan Maida made six digs and Evan Dziadkowiec set up 22 assists.
The win advanced the Porters to the regional title game on Thursday where they will take on Lincoln-Way Central.
Lincoln-Way Central 2, Plainfield East 0: At Lockport, the Bengals hung on for an admirably long time, but the Knights still came away victorious in a 25-23, 36-34 Lockport Regional semifinal win.
Luke Mostello had 11 digs in the win for Central, Will Hinchliffe added six kills, 18 assists, nine digs and two blocks, Jon Malak had six kills and two blocks and Michael Greco added nine kills and three blocks.
The Knights will go up against Lockport in the regional championship match Thursday in Lockport.
Lincoln-Way East 2, Romeoville 0: At Chicago Heights, the Griffins notched a quick 25-12, 25-18 win to keep their season alive at the Marian Catholic Regional semifinals.
The win advances East to the regional final match Thursday against Lemont.
Lemont 2, Stagg 1: At Chicago Heights, Lemont came out on top in a back-and-forth battle with Stagg in the semifinal round of the Marian Catholic regional.
The 25-22, 24-26, 25-17 win advanced Lemont to the regional championship match with Lincoln-Way East on Thursday in Chicago Heights.
Lincoln-Way West 2, Joliet West 0: At New Lenox, the Warriors defended their home floor with a Lincoln-Way West Regional semifinal victory over the Tigers.
The 25-22, 25-20 win moves L-WW forward to Thursday’s regional title game against Plainfield North.
Plainfield North 2, Providence 0: At New Lenox, the Tigers earned a shot at a regional championship with a 25-21, 25-19 win over the Celtics at the Lincoln-Way West Regional.
North will take on Lincoln-Way West on Thursday in the Lincoln-Way West Regional championship match in New Lenox.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Lincoln-Way Central 21, O’Fallon 0: At New Lenox, the Knights shut out O’Fallon in their sectional quarterfinal match, preserving their unbeaten record and advancing to the sectional semifinals.
Central is 15-0 heading into Wednesday’s semifinal matchup.
