Morris Hospital recognizes Jon Wiechen for excellence in engineering technology

Wiechen named Fire Starter of the Month for June

Morris Hospital recently honored Jon Wiechen, an engineer tech 2 in the hospital’s facilities department.

Wiechen, of Morris, was named the Fire Starter of the Month for June for going above and beyond “for every individual in this hospital,” Byron Gillespie, facilities manager at Morris Hospital, said in a news release from the hospital.

Fire starters were individuals who kept the flame alive in early civilizations, according to the release.

“He [Jon] makes sure all jobs he does are perfect, and that the customer is satisfied with everything,” Gillespie said in the release. “It doesn’t matter whether he’s doing something for another department, a visitor or a patient. Jon is the most well-liked and respected person I’ve seen.”

Jennifer Jones, a specialty radiology technologist, nominated Wiechen for the honor.

Jones wrote, “Jon takes great pride in completing jobs to perfection and holds himself to a very high standard when it comes to any tasks that he needs to complete. He makes it easier for staff to focus on patient care and provide a safe environment for patients.”

In the release, Wiechen said he’s a “detail-oriented perfectionist” in all aspects of his job, whether he’s filing a work order or engaged in preventative building maintenance.

Wiechen likes knowing his contributing the hospital’s mission of improving health care for all residents by “maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for staff and patients” and knowing he gave his best every day, the release said.

That’s the same attitude Wiechen gave to his construction jobs – he had started working construction right out of high school, the release said. Wiechen started working at Morris Hospital in 2016.

“I love every part of what I do, but I’m a people person,” Wiechen said in the release. “I love being all over the hospital and seeing people all the time.”
