D. 86 in Joliet and the Valley View School are participating in summer meal programs

On May 24, The Herald-News provided information on two locations offering free meals for kids this summer.

Here are two more locations.

Joliet Public Schools District 86 will distribute a week’s worth of meals (breakfast and lunch) for any child 18 years old and younger. Children’s names are not required to participate in the program.

Curbside meal distributions will be held on 6:30-7:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Thursdays from June 17 through July 15 in the parking lots at Dirksen Junior High, 203 S. Midland Ave. and Gompers Junior High, 1501 Copperfield Ave.

In addition, Gompers will also host meal pick-ups on July 22 and July 29.

Facemasks are required at all meal distributions.

In addition, the VVSD Nutrition Services is also offering free meals (breakfast and lunch) for anyone under 18 years old in Bolingbrook and Romeoville.

Meals will be available from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday through Friday with the exception of July 5.

VVSD Kids Meals will be available at Door #1 at Romeoville, Irene King Elementary, Beverly Skoff Elementary and A. Vito Martinez Middle School, all in Romeoville; and Brooks Middle School, Humphrey Middle School, Independence Elementary School and John R. Tibbott Elementary School, all in Bolingbrook.

Free summer meals are part of the Summer Food Service Program sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture and administered by the Illinois State Board of Education.
