Here are 2 places kids can receive free breakfast and lunch this summer

Joliet church, Troy school district, participating in summer meal programs

The First Presbyterian Church in Joliet will be offering a summer lunch program for children starting in June.

The program, sponsored by the Northern Illinois Food Bank, will run from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday from June 1 through Aug. 17, according to Barb Rodgers, the coordinator of the summer lunch program at First Presbyterian Church.

In addition, Troy Community School District 30-C is partnering with its food vendor Arbor Management to offer free breakfast and lunch meals for children ages 18 and under.

The program begins June 9 and ends Aug. 4. Each pickup contains enough food for seven days of breakfasts and lunches.

Recipients do not need to attend Troy schools.

Curbside pick-ups will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. each Wednesday at Troy Middle School and Troy Heritage Trail Elementary School

No meals will be offered on July 7 or Aug. 11. Pickups on the previous Wednesdays will be doubled. This gives recipients enough food for 14 days instead of seven.

Funding for the program will be met through the USDA Meals for Kids program.
