Letter: Death of Colin Powell highlights widening gulf

To the Editor:

While listening to the sad news but wonderful words spoken by so many after the death of Colin Powell, I would like to ask those in power and the citizens of our wonderful country, how do you think you will be remembered?

Have you lived a life you can be proud of, have you helped those around you, relatives, friends, or even strangers?

Have you inspired others by your words or deeds?

I look around at signs in yards, do they inspire or spread fear, anger or even hatred?

Do you fear going to school board or town meetings because of the hatred spewed there even in our small town of Dixon?

Do our local officials have the same fear?

The gulf is widening as the anger grows. I can only hope that it can be narrowed before it gets any larger.
