Illinois State Police to open 3 kiosks to address FOID backlog

SPRINGFIELD – The Firearms Service Bureau of the Illinois State Police is opening three kiosks to address the application backlog for Firearms Owner Identification.

The kiosk for northern Illinois is at the ISP District 5 station at 16648 Broadway St. in Lockport. It is open 8 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“This is a continuation of our efforts to streamline the application and renewal process of FOID Cards through the Office of Firearms Safety. We are dedicated to stay this course,” said Illinois State Police Director Brendan F. Kelly in a news release.

According to the state police, the bureau has reduced the FOID backlog by 89% for renewals and 75% for new applications since last year.

The other facilities are at the Central Headquarters, 801 S Seventh St., Springfield and District 13 station in DuQuoin.

The kiosks are to provide another option for customers without access to computers, smart phones or tablets.

The kiosks can assist with submitting name and address changes, renewals and new applications.

The kiosks also help with taking and uploading photographs, correcting applications or update existing accounts.

The Firearms Service Bureau will continue to provide other FOID and Conceal Carry License assistance at ISP.askFOIDandCCL@illinois.gov. Kiosk representatives will not be able to assist those with revoked cards or denied applications. Customers will have to contact the Office of Firearms Safety directly for those issues.
