Franklin Creek to dedicate trail to Larry Dunphy

Books on First owner Larry Dunphy says he works a lot of hours, "but hell, everyone works a lot of hours, whether you own a business or not." And the "destination" book store has been open the same hours every week since it opened in 1998.

FRANKLIN GROVE — Franklin Creek Conservation Association will open the Larry Dunphy Memorial Storybook Trail on Sunday, Oct. 17 at the Hausen-Knox Shelter in the Franklin Creek State Natural Area.

Children’s nature activities and entertainment will begin at 1 p.m. These include seed plantings, creating bird feeders, scavenger hunts and a reading of the trail’s featured story, “Miss Maple’s Seeds.”

A celebration of life for Dunphy will begin at 4 p.m. Attendees are asked to share memories of Dunphy’s dedication to nature and literacy. Dunphy founded Books on First in Dixon with his wife, Carolyn Chin, and he served on the FCCA board.
