Weekend sports forecast: Clear skies, late summer heat

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Sports fans get clear skies for the weekend, but the competitors themselves should take note of the late summer heat with heat index readings into the mid 90s.

Friday night football should kickoff with temps in the 70s, falling to about 60. The wind will be south southeasterly at about 5 mph, with gusts in the 15 mph range.

Saturday activities will be warm — temps rising to a high of 91 — amid hazy sunshine. It will be a little more breezy, with gusts around 20. In the evening, things will cool to the low 70s.

Sunday the high will peak past 90. Winds will shift west southwest and be gusty. There is a 30% chance of showers Sunday afternoon north of Interstate-80. But the rains may not develop until about 1 a.m. Monday. The rest of Monday will be partly sunny with a high of 87.
