COVID-19 positive case ends Oregon football season

Oregon's Andrew Herbst escapes from a North Boone tackler at Landers Loomis Field.

The Oregon School District announced Monday that Oregon High School football activities would be suspended for 14 days due to a positive COVID-19 case within the program.

The suspension takes effect retroactively to Friday, April 9. OHS health staff will be contacting families with additional information regarding quarantine procedures.

The suspension effectively ends Oregon’s football season. The Hawks have already played three games in what was supposed to be a five-game season.

Oregon stands at 1-2 after falling 25-12 to North Boone April 9 and defeating Mendota 30-26 earlier this year. The Hawks opened the season with a 24-16 loss to Byron.

Calls made to Oregon Activities Director Mike Lawton and Head Football Coach Nick Schniederman were not returned by time of publication.
