Girls bowling: Oregon’s Wight rolls into Day 2 at IHSA State Meet

Oregon junior Ava Wight easily advanced to Day 2 of the IHSA State Bowling Meet, rolling a six-game series of 1,197 in the opening two rounds Friday at the Cherry Bowl in Rockford.

Wight opened her morning session with a 241 game and closed it with a 242, then started the afternoon with a 213. She bowled a 650 series in the morning and a 547 in the afternoon, putting her in 22nd place individually.

The top 30 individuals not on the top 12 advancing teams move on to Saturday’s third and fourth rounds, and Wight had the 12th-best score among the individuals not on advancing teams.

Vandalia’s Madison Ferguson is the top individual after two rounds with a 1,416, 80 pins ahead of second-place Katharine Svehla of Elmhurst York (1,336). Lockport leads the team standings with a 5,919, just ahead of Harlem (5,870).

The third round begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, then the fourth round will start around 1:15 p.m., after an hour break between sessions.
