36 new cases over the weekend in Whiteside County

Coronavirus cases in the Sauk Valley

Whiteside County reported 36 new cases over the weekend: 14 people younger than 20, 10 in their 20s, one in his or her 30s, four in their 40s, five in their 50s, one each in their 60s and 70s. Four people recovered.

Lee, Ogle and Carroll counties do no report on the weekend.

Meanwhile, the Illinois Department of Public Health reported 2,666 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 10 deaths Sunday.

As of Sunday, a total of 9,930,945 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been distributed statewide, with 8,054,634 vaccines administered; 3,330,480 of the state population is fully vaccinated, or 26.14%.

In Lee County, 25.21% of the population is fully vaccinated; in Whiteside County, the number is 23.96% and in Ogle County, 23.26%.

The North region (Boone, Carroll, DeKalb, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside, and Winnebago counties) has maintained a positivity rate below 8% for 93 days. The region’s positivity rate increased slightly to 7%.

Within this region, Lee County’s positivity rate decreased to 1.5%, and Whiteside County’s increased to 8.7%.

The seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate decreased from 4.1% to 4%.

Currently, 16% of ICU beds are available in the North region. Sunday is the sixth straight day this region is under 20% ICU capacity.

Hospitalizations have increased nine out of the past 10 days in this region.
