Sauk Valley adds 17 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday

Coronavirus cases in the Sauk Valley

The Whiteside County Health Department on Sunday announced 17 new COVID-19 cases involving five people younger than 20, two in their 20s, three in their 30s, three in their 50s, three in their 70s and one older than 80.

Lee, Ogle and Carroll counties did not report updated statistics on Sunday.

Whiteside County has had 5,504 cases, 4,959 recoveries and 135 deaths. Lee County has had 2,851 cases and 55 deaths. Ogle County has had 4,571 cases, 4,023 recoveries and 64 deaths. Carroll County has had 1,423 cases and 33 deaths.

The North region (Boone, Carroll, DeKalb, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside and Winnebago counties) saw its positivity rate fall below the 6.5% positivity rate needed to advance to Phase 4 for the second straight day. It is now 6.2%. Currently, 30% of ICU beds are available.

The region has 42 consecutive days above the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability.

Within this region, Ogle County’s positivity rate remained steady at 5.5%, DeKalb County’s positivity rate rose to 10.8%, Lee County’s rate rose to 1.1%, and Whiteside County’s rate rose to 6.6%.

Hospitalizations have decreased 9 out of the past 10 days in this region.

Whiteside County has reached 0.87% of the population vaccinated, with 3,417 total doses and 484 people fully vaccinated. Lee County has had 2,600 total doses and 221 people (0.65%) fully vaccinated. Ogle County has had 2,930 total doses and 536 people (1.05%) fully vaccinated. Carroll County has had 592 total doses and 44 people (0.31%) fully vaccinated.

The Illinois Department of Public Health announced 3,292 cases and 40 COVID-related deaths Sunday. There have been 1,101,819 cases and 18,750 deaths statewide.

Sterling has had 17,780 tests and 2,085 cases. Rock Falls has had 8,534 tests and 1,190 cases. Dixon has had 36,010 tests and 2,104 cases. Rochelle 10,324 tests and 1,492 cases.
