SPRINGFIELD — A Carroll County 4-H participant received a $1,000 scholarship from Prairie Farms Dairy as a top three finisher in the Superior Young Dairy Producer program held Aug. 21 at the Illinois State Fair.
Nevin Erbsen of Lanark was one of three top finishers, a release from Susan O’Connor of University of Illinois Extension said. The others were Shaka Lueking of Centralia and Megan Busker of Ridott.
In all, 22 4-H dairy project members took part. Each created an educational activity that promotes career development and personal growth through knowledge of the dairy industry.
The competition was conducted in three phases. The first part was a 25-question test relating to dairy nutrition and herd management. The second involved a skills test where contestants identified feed, evaluate dair records and identify equipment. The third phase included judging six classes of dairy cattle.
