Lights to shut off on U.S. 30, U.S. 52 Mississippi River bridges June 12

The South Bridge which carries U.S. 30 across the Mississippi River reopened Wednesday, Oct. 5. IDOT has been repairing and repainting the suspension bridge – officially the Gateway Bridge – since Sept. 6. The project was completed 10 days ahead of schedule.

The Illinois Department of Transportation will be shutting off roadway lights on the U.S. 52 Mississippi River Bridge in Savanna and U.S. 30 Mississippi River Bridge near Fulton beginning Friday, June 12.

The shutoff is to reduce the number of mayflies on the bridge pavement. The lights will be turned back on Sept. 22.
