AMBOY – Quinton Leffelman has been named Amboy High School’s student of the month.
What class do you find really engaging and why?: I find calculus to be very engaging and challenging. Our teacher Mrs. Carlson, also known as “Dinger,” does a really great job at breaking down the material and making every day a new learning experience. She uses different strategies and techniques quite different from your normal classroom experience that really make such a difficult and frustrating class fun and enjoyable each day. Dinger likes to make me and my classmates enjoy math through jokes, projects and certain bribes such as sweet treats, which really switches up your learning experience every day.
What are your career and post-graduation plans? What school(s) or other instruction, travel or endeavors do you have planned?: I either plan to stay at home and work on the family farm with my dad and uncle or plan to look into a certain trade school.
What are your two favorite extracurricular, volunteer or community activities you participate in?: Being a part of the FFA program at Amboy has taught me a lot about team camaraderie and leadership. I have also learned about the importance of work ethic and dedication as well as learning that whatever you put into something you are most likely to get whatever you put into it. Another thing that I have enjoyed is being the Amboy FFA chapter’s FFA ag plot manager. It has taught me about how to manage and control a farm as well as make connections to local ag-related companies that I’ve made relationships and connections that could help me in the future.
Please share a moment, group event or activity at school that was meaningful or memorable.: I think winning two state football championship games was a pretty big achievement. Knowing all the time and work you put into something you love and to come out on top really made those hard times worth it. All the outpouring of support from your family and friends as well as the community really makes memories that will last a lifetime. Football gave me memories with my teammates and provided friendships I will have for the rest of my life, and for a sport to supply me with such impactful memories and friendships, it’s hard to say I won’t miss playing football ever again.
What is your hope for the future?: To know that I gave it my all every day and made my parents and family proud.
