NCICG will host a virtual Marshall-Putnam Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan meeting Jan. 18

Meeting will begin at 6 p.m. and is open to the public via Zoom

The North Central Illinois Council of Governments will host a public kick-off meeting to discuss the planning process and benefits of updating the multi jurisdictional natural hazard mitigation plan for Marshall and Putnam counties.

The meeting is scheduled to take place via Zoom beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18. The Zoom link can be found on the organization’s website.

This meeting is open to the public as the organization believes it is important for all communities to discuss the impacts natural hazards have on our residents and communities. The organization hopes to develop strategies and help mitigate the hazard’s impact.

The purpose of a Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan is to identify the types of hazards that impact a jurisdiction to assess each area’s vulnerability to those hazards.

These plans also formulate mitigation strategies that will lessen the severity of natural disasters by protecting human life and property. Every five years plans must be reviewed and updated to remain active.
