A few hundred people attended the fifth annual Mad Hatter Ball on Friday Nov. 19, 2021, at the Auditorium Ballroom in downtown La Salle. Student honorees representing La Salle, Bureau and Putnam counties performed and presented their work. “The Mad Hatter Ball is the regional equivalent of a state championship of the arts, where topnotch local talent is honored. Food and prizes and music and fun filled up the evening,” said Julia Messina, executive director of NCI ARTworks. “This event showcases local student performers in all of the arts: visual, music, performing, literary, etc.”


Putnam County Lady Panthers won their season opener 36-21 over Stark County during the Lady Tigers Holiday Tournament on Monday Nov. 15, 2021 at Princeton High School.


Natures greatest show has returned to Starved Rock and Matthiessen state parks. The fall colors are a couple weeks late because of earlier drought conditions and warmer weather this autumn season. Mother Nature has graced the area with millions of trees bursting with color. The colors are expected to last through this weekend before the leaves fall. Grab your jacket or favorite sweatshirt and check out the annual blaze of glory.


St. Bede defeated Putnam County in three sets in the Class 1A Regional game in Henry on Wednesday Oct. 27, 2021. The Bruins play Woodland tomorrow at 6p.m.in Henry for the regional title game.


The American Countess paddle steamer passes by Henry on Saturday. The boat is making its way up the Illinois River on a nine-day cruise that departed Memphis, Tenn. and will disembark Monday in Ottawa. Passengers have the choice to “hop on and hop off” throughout the downtown area to experience local shopping, dining and sightseeing.


Country music megastar Luke Bryan, entertained over 15,000 people in Chillicothe on Saturday Sep. 11, 2021. Bryan, picked the remote location for the Farm Tour which visits corn fields and farms in six states .Bryan entertained the crowd along with singers and songwriters Whitney Duncan, Dylan Scott, and the Peach Pickers featuring Rhett Atkins, Dallas Davidson, and Ben Hayslip.


Firefighters from four counties were dispatched to Marquis Energy for a fire around 5:45 a.m. on Wednesday Sept. 1, 2021. The fire is located inside a pipe in the roof of a dryer building. The pipe is hard to access therefore causing a harder time for firefighters to extinguish.


Around 30 kayakers participated in the inaugural Lake Kayak/Canoe/Boat Float trip to Henry on Saturday Aug. 7, 2021. Kayakers departed the Walnut Grove Resort shoreline of Senachwine Lake and paddled to Henry. Around 30 people participated in the inaugural three-mile trip. Afterword’s, boaters had a cookout in Walnut Grove and a fun foam party for the kids.


4-H members showed their projects at the Marshall-Putnam 4-H Show on Thursday, July 22, 2021, in Henry. The 4-H Fair featured shows including poultry, rabbits, horse, beef, swine, sheep, goat and Supreme showmanship. Other events included foods and nutrition, natural resources, visual arts, rocket launch, a pork chop supper, pie auction, among others.
