Wonder Lake man charged with multiple burglaries

Burglaries occurred in May and June at Wonder Foods, Dusty’s Pizza and the Subway, all just outside Wonder Lake

A 39-year-old Wonder Lake man was arrested Tuesday in connection with burglaries of three businesses near Wonder Lake, as well as Kim and Patty’s Café in McHenry, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said.

Christopher A. Kalisz, of the 8400 block of Stillwater Road, was charged Tuesday with three counts of burglary, one count of possession of burglary tools, four counts of theft and two counts of criminal damage to property in connection to the Wonder Lake area burglaries, court records show.

Kalisz was arrested following an investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office into a May 27 burglary at Wonder Foods, 7505 Hancock Drive, during which someone forced their way into the business and surveillance video showed a person taking lottery tickets and a donation jar, according to a news release.

Additional surveillance video showed that another theft had also occurred May 18 where a similar-looking person took a donation jar, according to the release. Detectives also obtained additional surveillance video from a gas station where the lottery tickets were redeemed.

Two additional burglaries followed, one June 5 at Dusty’s Pizza, 7613 Howe Road, and another June 8 at the Subway located at 7407 Hancock Drive, according to the news release and court records.

Kalisz was arrested without incident and charged with the burglaries and thefts, according to the release.

Kalisz was subsequently interviewed by the McHenry City Police Department, who charged him with four additional counts of burglary which occurred at Kim and Patty’s Café in McHenry, according to the release. Court records show those charges have since been dismissed.

Kalisz was transported to the McHenry County Jail where he is being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
