High school sports roundup for Thursday, Oct. 14

Marian Central earned a shot at a regional championship Thursday with a 3-1 win in the Class 1A Marian Central Regional semifinal against Johnsburg.

Alek Trojanowski scored two second-half goals to vault the Hurricanes into the regional final. Dominic Aragona scored the opening goal to establish an early lead. Nate Iafigliola assisted on both of Trojanowski’s goals, and Michael Sbarounis had the assist on Aragona’s goal.

Peter Link scored the Skyhawks goal on an assist from Keegan McKinney.

Huntley 2, Rockford East 0: At Huntley, Aidan Huber made three saves in the shutout win.

Austin Killen and Vinny Aguirre each scored a goal in the win for Huntley (16-2-2).

Woodstock 2, Burlington Central 2: At Burlington, the Rockets rallied from an early deficit to force a draw with the Blue Streaks.

VOLLEYBALL

Crystal Lake South 2, McHenry 0: At McHenry, the Gators (23-3, 15-1 FVC) won, 25-19, 25-15, over the Warriors.

South’s Jessie Proszenyak had 12 kills and seven digs, Alyssa Zagroba had 13 digs, and Faith Gruenwald had 12 assists.

Ella Boland had seven kills for the Warriors, and Aspen O’Brien had 17 assists and four digs.

Huntley 2, Hampshire 0: At Huntley, the Red Raiders won, 25-18, 25-15, against the Whip-Purs.

Avary Deblieck led the way with nine kills for Huntley (19-9, 12-4 FVC), Maggie Duyos added five kills, 16 assists and 10 digs, and Luma Acevedo had 16 digs.

Jacey Lambert had four kills for the Whip-Purs (14-18, 5-11).

Prairie Ridge 2, Dundee-Crown 0: At Crystal Lake, the Wolves beat the Chargers, 25-22, 25-10.

Anna Siegwald had five kills for Prairie Ridge (13-15, 7-9 FVC), Breckan Severson had six digs, and Rilee Schulze added nine assists.

D-C is 5-16 overall and 1-14 in the FVC.

Johnsburg 2, Marian Central 0: At Johnsburg, the Skyhawks beat the Hurricanes, 25-17, 25-15, in Kishwaukee River Conference action.

Johnsburg’s Emmie Wizceb led the way with five kills and five digs, and Delaney Stern had 15 assists and five digs.

Jessa Passi had four kills and seven digs for the Hurricanes, and Grace Adams had 10 assists.

Burlington Central 2, Crystal Lake Central 1: At Crystal Lake, the Rockets outlasted the Tigers, 22-25, 31-29, 25-20.

McKenna Timmerman had 18 kills and nine digs for the Tigers, and Paige Keller dished out 30 assists.
