Hampshire kept Jacobs’ productive offense from scoring through regulation and two overtime periods, then cashed in on the opportunity in a penalty-kick shootout.

The Whip-Purs prevailed in a penalty-kick shootout to win the Fox Valley Conference Boys Soccer Tournament championship, 1-0, Friday night in Algonquin.

Jacobs (12-1-1) was the regular season champion and defeated Hampshire, 8-2, early in the season. But the Whips came back to finish second in the regular season.

Huntley 2, Prairie Ridge 1: At Huntley, the Red Raiders won the third-place match in the FVC Tournament.

Skyler Briarton’s goal had Huntley (9-4-1) up, 1-0, at halftime. Chris Czyz made it 2-0 off an assist from Marshall Clemetsen, before Prairie Ridge cut its deficit in half when Kiefer Besterfeldt set up a goal by Luke Wall.

Wolves keeper Daniel Llanquiman made three saves.

Tyler Bahwell made six saves in net for Huntley.

BASEBALL

Schaumburg 5, Crystal Lake South 4: At Crystal Lake, Jaden Gumprecht pitched 4⅔ innings of no-hit, no-run ball in relief for the Gators, striking out eight and walking only one.

Jake Placencia had a single and two RBI for South.

McHenry 18, Zion-Benton 0: At Zion, the Warriors won the nonconference game in four innings to improve to 2-1.

McHenry received two hits apiece from Gavin Micklinghoff (two doubles, three RBI), Cooper Cohn (double, two RBI) and Trevor Rockweiler (two RBI). Lazlow Ziebel pitched three innings for the win, allowing four hits while striking out two, and Jacob Freund threw one inning to complete the shutout.

SOFTBALL

Woodstock 3, Hampshire 0: At Hampshire, Kiley Ryan struck out 17 batters in a complete-game effort for the Blue Streaks.

Bridget Haefling touched Ryan for a fifth-inning double, but the day belonged to Woodstock and its ace right-hander, who allowed only two hits and one walk. Ryan, Abby Weber and Meghan Nixon each racked up multiple hits for the Blue Streaks.

Lincoln-Way Central 7, Huntley 1: At New Lenox, Bri Bower suffered the loss despite striking out nine and not walking a batter in 4⅔ innings.

Bower also hit a solo home run. Reese Hunkins and Abi Simandl were both 2 for 3 for Huntley.

Richmond-Burton 17, McHenry 15: At Richmond, the Rockets got two home runs from Mia Spohr, a three-run shot from Rachel Baker and another homer from Jesse Klicker as part of an 18-hit attack in the nonconference game.

R-B (3-0) got multiple-hit games from Baker, Norah Spittler, Skylar Krasinski, Klicker, Peyton Kupsak, Taylor Davison and Spohr. Baker led the Rockets with four hits in four at-bats.

Vernon Hills 15, Prairie Ridge 14: At Vernon Hills, the Wolves lost the nonconference game despite three hits apiece from Hope McHugh (three runs, RBI) and Emily Harlow (three runs, four RBI).

Vernon Hills scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Prairie Ridge received two hits apiece from Bella Crimaldi (three runs), Mary Myers (three RBI) and Nicole Kiddy (RBI).

BOYS SOCCER

Marist 3, Marian Central 1: At Woodstock, Mateo Raso’s penalty kick in the second half gave the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead in the East Suburban Catholic Conference match, before the RedHawks stormed back with three unanswered strikes.

Ryan Simmons made 13 saves in net for Marian Central (6-6-1, 3-6-0).

BOYS TENNIS

Dundee-Crown 5, Woodstock 2: At Carpentersville, the Chargers picked up the nonconference win.

Woodstock got wins from its doubles teams of Brad Arnold/Jacob Murray and Sam Berry/Matt Keyzer.
