High school sports roundup for Tuesday, Feb. 23

Cary-Grove’s Drew Talkington hit a jumper with 8 seconds remaining to give the Trojans a 41-40 victory over Dundee-Crown in their Fox Valley Conference boys basketball game Tuesday in Carpentersville.

Talkington led the Trojans (5-1, 4-1) with 15 points. Mike Clarke scored 10.

Kennon Cook topped the Chargers (3-2, 3-2) with 17 points and Jason Huber added 10.

Cook got a steal and a basket to put D-C ahead with 12 seconds remaining, then Talkington came right back with a 17-footer for the winner.

Woodstock North 81, Johnsburg 70: At Algonquin, Justin Ortiz led the Thunder (3-2, 3-2) with 21 points in a KRC victory over the Skyhawks (5-3, 2-3).

Christian Soto scored 18 and Cole Brey had 16 for North.

Dylan Schmidt led Johnsburg with 22 and Josh Nortiano added 19.

Jacobs 37, Hampshire 25: At Algonquin, Zach Leahy scored 13 points and James Hayes added 10 as the Golden Eagles (3-3, 2-3) beat the Whip-Purs (0-6, 0-5) in their FVC game.

Richmond-Burton 58, Harvard 51: At Harvard, T.J. Turner scored 15 points and Jake Barthel added 13 as the Rockets (5-1, 4-1) defeated the Hornets (0-5, 0-5) in their KRC game.

Trey Amaya and Lee Galarza scored 13 points each to lead Harvard.

St. Patrick 74, Marian Central 18: At Woodstock, the Hurricanes (1-7, 0-4) were overpowered by the Shamrocks in their East Suburban Catholic Conference contest.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Burlington Central 54, Prairie Ridge 40: At Crystal Lake, Elana Wells came through with 23 points, seven rebounds and five steals to keep the Rockets (7-0, 5-0 FVC) perfect on the season. Taylor Charles added 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Becca Carani had eight points.

Prairie Ridge’s Karsen Karlblom drained five 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 18 points. Kelly Gende chipped in six points for the Wolves.

Jacobs 47, Hampshire 43: At Hampshire, the Golden Eagles trailed, 38-32, after three quarters, but held FVC foe Hampshire to only five points in the fourth quarter.

Mackenzie Leahy scored 11 of her game-high 24 points in the fourth quarter to lead Jacobs to the comeback win. Bridget Grady and Janaya Banks each added eight points.

Ashley Herzing paced the Whip-Purs with 13 points, and Lia Saunders scored eight.

Richmond-Burton 46, Harvard 19: At Richmond, the Rockets (2-4, 2-3) came away with the KRC victory behind 12 points from Rachel Baker. Hannah Schleibinger and Lyndsay Regnier added 11 points apiece.

Emma Ackland led Harvard with seven points and four blocks.

Marengo 53, Woodstock 23: At Woodstock, the Indians had little trouble picking up a win in KRC play.

Jennifer Heinberg supplied Marengo with 21 points, including three 3-pointers, Morgan Coffman had 12 points, and Alexis Kunde scored nine.

Theresa Presisto topped Woodstock with six points.

Johnsburg 54, Woodstock North 49: At Johnsburg, the Skyhawks’ KRC matchup with North came down to the wire, with Johnsburg scoring 21 in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.

Macy Madsen led the Skyhawks with 14 points. Molly Wetzel was close behind with 12 points, while Payton Toussaint and Kaylee Fouke each provided nine points.

Madison Czischki hit four 3s en route to 14 points for the Thunder. Allison Goers and Lacey Schaffter each scored 12 points.

GIRLS BOWLING

Johnsburg 1,939, McHenry 1,826: At Raymond’s Bowl in Johnsburg, Toria Blake bowled a 415 series to lead the Skyhawks to the win. Jess Meyer added a 384 series, Ana Bates bowled a 367, and Cass Kinney had a 355.

Veronica Chrisman led McHenry with a 418 series, including a 171 high game, and Brianna May bowled a 414 series.

BOYS BOWLING

Huntley 3,493, Marengo 3,430: At Glo Bowl in Marengo, the Red Raiders came away with a close win.

Nick Zummo cracked 200 in all three games (249-256-232) to record a 737 series. AJ Debello added a 643 series, and Matt Racilla rolled a 559 series.

Marengo’s Tim Scholl also surpassed 200 in all three games (280-209-235) for a 724 series. Kyle Peters supplied the Indians with a 580 series, and Tommy Lulinski had a 540 series.

BOYS SWIMMING

Jacobs 110, McHenry 59: At McHenry, Nate Herrera and Pavlo Komarov each won two events to lead the District 300 co-op team past the Warriors in their dual meet.

Herrera won the 100- and 200-yard freestyles; Komarov won the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. D-300 also got wins from Charlie Mason (200 individual medley), Martin Nowak (500 freestyle) and Alex Sutherland (100 backstroke).

McHenry’s Christopher Perry won the 100 breaststroke.
