Pistol Shrimp top LumberKings, snap four-game skid

Colton Coca went 3-for-4, drove in four runs and scored a run Tuesday as the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp rolled to a 12-6 victory over the Clinton LumberKings in Clinton, Iowa, to snap a four-game losing streak.

Clinton took a 3-0 lead after two innings, but the Shrimp responded with three runs in the third, highlighted by a two-run double by Coca.

Illinois Valley scored two runs in the fifth before breaking the game open with a five-run sixth.

In the sixth, Andy Nelson hit an RBI single, Coca connected for a two-run single, and Dom Souto ripped a two-run double to extend the Shrimp’s lead to 10-3.

The Pistol Shrimp added an insurance run in the seventh on an RBI double from Sam Link, and tacked on another run in the eighth on an RBI single by Will Worthington.

Ryan Eiermann started for Illinois Valley, allowing three earned runs on three hits while striking out seven batters and walking four in four innings.

J Rios came on in relief, giving up one unearned run on one hit with two strikeouts and a walk in three innings.

Ryan Palmblad finished the game, as he gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits with four strikeouts and a walk in two innings.

The Pistol Shrimp (7-17) play the LumberKings (8-15) again Wednesday in Clinton with the first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
