Update: As COVID-19 community transmission again grows in DeKalb County, local health officials on Thursday issued new guidance strongly recommending a return to universal indoor masking in the county, regardless of vaccination status. Mayors throughout DeKalb County spoke to the Daily Chronicle in response:
All La Salle County residents, including fully-vaccinated people, should wear a mask while in public indoor settings, since the county is seeing substantial transmission of COVID-19, the La Salle County Health Department said Thursday.
IDPH Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike: “Until more people are vaccinated, we join CDC in recommending everyone, regardless of vaccination status, wear a mask indoors in areas of substantial and high transmissions, and in K-12 schools.”
Citing new information about the ability of the delta variant to spread among vaccinated people, the CDC also recommended indoor masks for all teachers, staff, students and visitors to schools, regardless of vaccination status.
