Tieman projected to win First Ward after leading by 300 votes, MacLeod concession

Tieman is honored by the responsibility

Peru’s first ward voters have unofficially elected Bob Tieman to serve as their Alderman for the next four years. This result is unofficial as all numbers from Tuesday evening are considered to be unofficial at this time. The results are based purely off of projections.

Peru’s First Ward voters have unofficially elected Bob Tieman to serve as their alderman for the next four years.

Tieman bested opponent John MacLeod by a vote count of 451 to 121 with all precincts reporting.

“I want everyone to know that I don’t take it lightly. I really mean what I said when I told everyone that I want to do some good for this community.”

MacLeod also posted a concession video to his campaign Facebook congratulating Tieman on the position.

Tieman was born and raised in La Salle, but has called Peru home since 2018. He graduated from L-P High School in 2001 and is currently a board member with the La Salle Business Association.

“It’s pretty surreal. I’m really glad and honored that the voters in my ward trust me with this,” Tieman said. “I want everyone to know that I don’t take it lightly. I really mean what I said when I told everyone that I want to do some good for this community.”

For Tieman, he stated that his calling to run for office stemmed from his inner sense of civic duty and drive to do good for the community. Tieman feels that at the end of the day if he can do a little good for the community, then the time spent and the effort put out will all be worth it.

Tieman wants to see Peru thrive going forward. He believes a key to this goal is open communication streams between local government and its residents.

He would like to see Peru do more in the community and, more importantly, for the community. The return of the Taste of the Illinois Valley and the addition of having live music at Centennial Park are great starts, but more can be done, he believes.

Tieman is looking forward to getting started with the city, gaining an insider’s perspective and making plans to improve Peru.

Tieman mentioned he is a normal guy who just wants to do right by his community, and he wants to work hard to make Peru a better place for all residents — in and out of his ward.

“I hope that this is just the first chance that I get, and I want to do right by everyone,” Tieman said. “I’ve been a wreck all day and didn’t really know what to expect.

“This has been my first foray into this, but I’m glad it turned out the way it did.”
