An Earlville police officer is in serious condition at OSF St. Anthony’s Medical Center in Rockford following a crash Saturday night on U.S. 34 while attempting to apprehend a fleeing suspect, who was apprehended and awaiting a bond hearing.

Jaquaya M. Roy, 23, of Bloomington, Indiana (also listed in Chicago) was being held in La Salle County Jail on a preliminary charge of aggravated fleeing and eluding plus assorted traffic charges. A bond hearing was pending in La Salle County Circuit Court.

The officer was assisting the La Salle County Sheriff’s Office, said Earlville Police Chief Darin Crask.

“For those who feel so inclined, I am asking for prayers for one of our officers,” Crask wrote on the Earlville Police Department’s Facebook page.

The officer was described as in “serious but stable” after La Salle County Sheriff’s Office and the Earlville officer tried to halt Roy, whose vehicle was spotted at 8:26 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 34 west of East 1251st Road. The chase ended with a crash at East Third and North 46th roads.

Besides the fleeing-eluding a count — likely a felony considering the injuries to the officer — Roy was charged with two counts of speeding (she exceeded 100 mph at one point), reckless driving, passing in a no-passing zone, illegal transportation of alcohol and unlawful possession of adult-use marijuana by a driver.

The injured officer’s name and details of the injuries were not immediately available.
