High school sports roundup for Monday, April 4: Jack Desmond, Glenbard West rally for walk-off win over Lyons

BASEBALL

Glenbard West 5, Lyons 4

Jack Desmond knocked in the game winner as the Hilltoppers (4-1-1, 1-0) scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally for the win in the West Suburban Silver opener. Jake Glynn also had a key RBI single. Will McKinnon picked up his second win of the season in relief.

Jack McNamara homered and drove in three runs for Lyons (2-3, 0-1).

Nazareth 12, Fenton 0

Winning pitcher Luke Brabham struck out six over three innings, allowing four hits, and Finn O’Meara struck out five in two innings of relief for Nazareth. At the plate David Cox had a double, run scored and RBI, and Cole Reifsteck and Bobby Kutt each drove in runs.

Wheaton Academy 6, Yorkville Christian 6

Andy Roman went 2 for 3 with a double, home run, three RBIs and two runs scored for the Warriors in a game called due to lighting issues. Grant Rojek threw three shutout innings to finish the game for Wheaton Academy.

IC Catholic Prep 8, Westmont 5

Lucas Hicks was 3 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored and Jason Czaplewski 2 for 4 with two RBIs for Westmont (1-5, 0-3).

Downers Grove North 6, York 4

George Wolkow had two hits and three RBIs, Jack Miller also had two hits and Ean Czech drove in two runs as the Trojans took the first game of the three-game series. Alex White pitched 6.2 innings for the win and Sean Ryniec picked up a three pitch save.

SOFTBALL

Montini 6, Fremd 4

Kora Navarro went 3 for 4 and got the win in relief, Ava Franklin tripled and scored and Erin Grimley ended the game with a great throw on a fielder’s choice as Montini rallied for the nonconference win.

Plainfield North 4, Wheaton Warrenville South 3

The Tigers gave up a three-run lead in a nonconference loss. WW South’s Presley Wright threw the complete game in a tough-lough loss. Parker Leonard led the Tigers’ offense.

Naperville Central 9, Hinsdale South 7

Caitlin Bishop went 3 for 4, Nikki Berger went 2 for 3, Amber Fedinec homered and freshman Lauren Bishop struck out seven on the mound for the Hornets.

Glenbard North 5, Waubonsie Valley 2

Elli Matzke struck out 11 and freshman Tru Medina hit her first high school homer for the Panthers.
