High school sports roundup for Saturday, March 13: Becca Honig, Glenbard East gymnasts win Upstate Eight title

GYMNASTICS

Upstate Eight Conference meet

Becca Honig (37.525) and Kali Kartheiser (36.100) went one/two in the all-around, leading Glenbard East to the Upstate Eight Conference championship. Glenbard East scored 141.200 points, with Oswego Co-op (137.825) second.

Honig won the floor (9.550), vault (9.600) and beam (9.325), with Kartheiser taking the bars (9.375).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Wheaton North 46, St. Charles East 32

Claire Hyde scored 25 points and hit five 3-pointers, Julia Simon added eight points, Ellie Hubbard seven and Caroline Gaither six for the Falcons. With St. Charles North’s 49-46 loss to Batavia, the Falcons and North Stars shared the DuKane Conference title.

Wheaton Warrenville South 53, Glenbard North 51

Lily Huntzinger had 20 points and six rebounds to pace the Tigers in the overtime victory. Katie Kroehnke added 11 points and Hannah Struebing nine.

Timothy Christian 74, Fenton 30

Hannah Schuringa poured in 27 points, Sureya Alex added 13 and Greta Hoogstra and Sarah Carstensen added nine each for the Trojans.

St. Francis 45, Waubonsie Valley 43

Kate Chaparro’s putback at the buzzer gave the Spartans a thrilling win in their season finale. Maggie Culver led St. Francis (10-6) with 13. Lauren McKnight scored 18 for Waubonsie.

Hinsdale Central 39, Proviso West 36

Eleanor Monyek scored 15 points and Lanie Randle 13 for the Red Devils.

The Tigers (16-2, 13-1) complete their DuKane Conference season with a 13-game winning streak.

IC Catholic Prep 56, Wheaton Academy 47

John Hilgart scored 24 points and Johnny Falduto and Liam Johnson scored 10 for the Knights (10-7, 7-5), who finished the season with a four-game winning streak.

Downers Grove South 74, Willowbrook 66

Jakobe Jones scored 20 points and Nathan Waterman 19 for the Mustangs. Alexander Simmons scored 17 for Willowbrook.

Willowbrook 84, Leyden 68

Terrell Walker scored 19 points and Noah Campbell 17 for the Warriors.
