Called “One of the most original voices in American theater today” by The Houston Chronicle, Maher is a co-founder of Chicago’s Theater Oobleck and author of “There Is a Happiness That Morning Is”; “Song About Himself”; “An Apology for the Course and Outcome of Certain Events Delivered by Doctor John Faustus on This His Final Evening”; “The Cabinet”; “The Hunchback Variations”; “The Strangerer”; and “It Is Magic,” a sequel to “Macbeth.”

Classes

Arlene Malinowski, a master storyteller, offers her joyous storytelling workshop on Zoom and all are welcome. Everyone has a vast collection of stories just waiting to be told. The workshop is filled with hands-on activities and prompts designed to help you uncover, write and shape the stories that are uniquely yours, the good, the bad and the ugly. “Whether you are a new or seasoned writer, want to perform on a stage, do some public speaking, personal journaling or just tell a good story at Thanksgiving dinner, this class will give you tools to build on,” organizers stated.

In the final class session, writers have the opportunity to read their piece or let an actor perform the material for a Zoom showcase. The class is offered from 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays, March 29 to May 17.

Michele DiMaso will teach an adult acting class from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, March 29 to May 17. It will explore all the different techniques it takes to bring a character to life, and will work on relationships and character development, and dive into some text. The class will culminate in a Zoom performance.

Both classes are for people age 17 and older, and each costs $55 for residents, $65 for nonresidents.
