Seneca’s Gabi Maxwell has signed on to continue her education and track and field career at Olivet Nazarene University.

Seneca’s Teagan Johnson has signed to continue her education and track and field career at the University of Mississippi.

The Illinois Elementary School Association held its annual state track and field meets the last two weekends at EastSide Centre in East Peoria, with numerous athletes from area schools scoring top-eight, all-state finishes in the IESA’s multitude of divisions.

The Seneca girls track and field team won its 12th consecutive Class 1A sectional championship, while Newark placed second in Thursday's wet and cold event in Seneca.

Morris advanced in the 4x200 with a second-place time of 1:50.45 ran by Gisselle Reyes, Ava Conley, Mackenzie Edgar and Ella McDaniel. They edged Galesburg, which took third in 1:50.70, for the final qualifying spot.

Teams from Princeton, Coal City, Morris, Streator and La Salle-Peru all competed in the Class 2A track and field Sectional on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Princeton High School.

Minooka was the team runner-up at a Class 3A Minooka Sectional that saw plenty of area advancers to next weekend's IHSA State Finals.

La Salle-Peru nosed past Kaneland, Sycamore to claim the Interstate 8 Conference girls track and field meet title on Friday at the L-P Sports Complex.
