Elgin police still ‘actively’ searching for escaped detainee

Detectives continue to follow leads after Hugo R. Avila escaped from a vehicle while being transported to the Kane County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday

ELGIN – Elgin detectives are “actively searching” for escaped Kane County detainee Hugo R. Avila as of Thursday afternoon.

Deputy Chief Adam Schuessler said that police are continuing to follow up on leads.

“We’re focusing on locating him and taking him into custody safely,” he said. “The circumstances of his escape will be reviewed.”

Avila, 21, escaped from a transport vehicle in the area of Randall Road and Route 64 in St. Charles shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday while being transported to the Kane County Sheriff’s Department.

Avila, who has black hair and brown eyes and is approximately 5-foot-8, 125 pounds, was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans, and was fleeing from the area in a northeast direction.

Avila was in custody in due to felony traffic related offenses, according to the Elgin Police Department’s Facebook page.
