Geneva seeks volunteers for diversity, inclusion task force

New panel seeks to ensure Geneva welcomes all

GENEVA – The city of Geneva invites residents and stakeholders to apply to serve on the City’s new Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Task Force, officials announced in a news release.

Through the development of the city’s 2025 Strategic Plan and in subsequent goal-setting meetings, city officials affirmed its commitment to ensuring Geneva is open, inclusive, and welcoming to all individuals.

The City Council approved the creation of the task force in March to help advance this vision and amplify the voice of diverse communities within Geneva.

The task force will work to develop a strategy to help the city better engage and strengthen relationships with diverse communities, the release stated.

Through engagement and listening, the task force will identify issues and any barriers that may prevent friends or neighbors from fully participating in civic life.

Acting as a community voice, the task force will help chart a course for the future and present recommended actions the city may take to help ensure Geneva is an inclusive community that is welcoming to all.

Applications are available on the city’s website, www.geneva.il.us. It can be emailed to bmccready@geneva.il.us or via regular mail to Board Application, City of Geneva, 22 S. First St., Geneva, IL 60134. The deadline to apply is May 2.

To make sure everyone has a voice at the table, an emphasis will be put on applicants who can speak to diverse perspectives and experiences, the release stated.

No prior municipal or government experience is required.

Interviews are tentatively scheduled during the first week of May. Members are to be appointed to the task force later this spring.
