GENEVA – An Aurora man who was charged with drunken driving was also assessed $1,000 in damages to sod, landscaping, a building light, a drainage pipe and a bush after he drove off the road and into a ditch, according to Geneva police reports.
Elijah M. Moser, 25, of the 2200 block of Prairie Street, Aurora, was also charged May 4 with driving with a blood alcohol greater than0.08% and driving without insurance, according to reports.
A minute after midnight on May 4, a Geneva officer noticed a silver 2003 Lincoln Town Car in a ditch on the north side of California Pizza Kitchen, 1202 Commons Drive, with a driver trying to maneuver out of the ditch. Around back of the restaurant, the officer saw another vehicle parked in the exit drive near the Lincoln, the report stated.
The driver of that car, who was not impaired, said he was trying to help his friend get the Town Car out of the ditch, that he was following seconds after Moser crashed, and he helped Moser out of the Lincoln and placed him in the driver’s seat of his own car, the report stated.
The friend said that Moser had been drinking, the report stated.
The officer noted that the Lincoln had two flat tires on the passenger side and fresh damage to the front and scratches on the passenger side, the report stated.
When the officer went to check on Moser in the passenger seat of his friend’s car, “his head (was) drooping and bobbing up and down,” the report stated.
“I asked Elijah for his name. He attempted to raise his head and replied in a slurred voice,” the report stated. “I subsequently requested medical personnel to the scene to evaluate Elijah. I informed Elijah he was under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol.”
Moser is to appear in court May 19, court records show.
