3 Batavia cops injured after slipping on snow, ice while chasing suspect

Suspect parolee charged with felony resisting arrest, domestic battery, risks return to prison

BATAVIA – A man who ran from police and caused three officers to become injured by slipping on ice and snow is now charged with felony resisting arrest, according to Batavia police reports released after a Freedom of Information Act request.

Quincy D. Jones, 28, of the 7000 block of South Parnell Avenue, Chicago, was also charged with two counts of misdemeanor domestic battery, police and court records show.

Jones is currently being held in the Kane County jail on $35,000 bond. He would need to post $3,500 or 10% as bail in order to be released, court records show.

As a condition of his bail, Jones would have no contact with the victim, nor entry at her apartment, court records show.

Jones has a Feb. 10 court date in Kane County, court records show.

Police were called to an apartment in the 1300 block of East Wilson Street about 6:30 a.m. Jan. 11 for a complaint of domestic violence that had occurred the day before, about 4 p.m. Jan. 10, reports stated.

The victim told police that she and Jones, who is the father of one of her children, had an argument over their breakup the past weekend, and it had become physical, the report stated.

The victim told police Jones had slapped her a few times in the mouth, causing a bruised lip and pushed her onto the bed causing bruises to her leg, the report stated.

Jones left for half an hour and while he was gone, called and made threats that he would damage the apartment if she did not let him back in; she was afraid, so she let him back into the apartment, the report stated.

He slept on the sofa that night without further incident that night, the report stated.

When officers arrived, Jones said he wanted to speak with them outside on the patio so the victim could not hear the conversation. As soon as the door was open, Jones brushed past the officers and took off running north across the parking lot, jumped the property fence and ran towards the railroad tracks, the report stated.

All three officers became injured from slipping and falling on the ice and snow, two of them requiring medical attention, the report stated.

Officers eventually caught Jones because he, too, slipped and fell, the report stated.

Jones told officers he ran because he is on parole for a gun charge and did not want to go back to prison. Officers confirmed that he is on parole and would be in violation if arrested on any felony or domestic-related charges, the report stated.

According to the Illinois Department of Corrections, Jones was paroled on Nov. 18, 2020 from the Danville Correctional Center after serving half of a 30-month sentence on a charge of a felon in possession of a firearm.

The Department of Corrections faxed a no-bond warrant for Jones for violating his parole, the report stated.
