Kane County sees uptick in number of COVID-19 cases on Tuesday

Positivity rate also increases slightly

Illinois public officials on Tuesday reported 186 new cases of COVID-19 in Kane County and three new deaths – a woman in her 50s, a woman in her 70s and a woman in her 80s.

That is an increase from the 118 cases reported Monday. Kane County has now seen 47,475 total cases of the virus and 664 people have died.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen zero days below the 6.5% threshold to advance to Phase 4. The region’s positivity rate increased from 7.3% to 7.5%. Currently, 30% of ICU beds are available.

The region has 44 consecutive days over the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity average increased from 8.1% to 8.3% and DuPage County’s increased from 6.8% to 7.0%.

Hospitalizations have decreased or remained stable seven out of the past 10 days in this region.

The positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive out of all the people tested in a given time period. Additional restrictions can be placed on any of the state’s 11 health regions if the region sustains an increase in its average positivity rate for seven days out of a 10-day period.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 3,667 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 87 additional deaths Tuesday. The state received the results of 69,285 COVID-19 tests in the 24 hours leading up to Tuesday afternoon.

According to the IDPH, the seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate decreased from 4.7% to 4.6%.

Illinois has seen 1,108,430 total cases of the virus, and 18,883 people have died.
