Art reception to celebrate exhibit at Water Street Studios in Batavia

Second Fridays festivities on tap March 11

The gallery at Water Street Studios is captured earlier this year by noted Batavia photographer Brian DeWolf.

The works of four artists will be celebrated at an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 11, at Water Street Studios in Batavia, a Second Fridays event.

The artists are Maureen Gasek, Mays Mayhew, Bryan Daniel Joseph and Damon Rowley. Also featured will be music by Lily Clara (www.lilyclara.com), and an art demonstration by WSS instructor Maggie Capettini. Watch a painting evolve live from start to finish as the award-winning oil painter demonstrates her technique of painting from life with knives, a news release stated.

Capettini will set up her plein air easel, and paint a still life with flowers. In addition to knives, she uses brush washes and oil pigment sticks to create colorful and textural paintings. See her work at www.maggiecapettini.com.

The reception offers a cash bar, with snacks for purchase.

Masks are optional for the event. To learn more about the policy update, visit waterstreetstudios.org/reopening-guidelines.

The exhibit remains on display until April 3, with gallery hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Water Street Studios is at 160 S. Water St. For information, call 630-761-9977 or visit waterstreetstudios.org.
