The Venue, the 200-seat music performance space in downtown Aurora, continues to entertain fans with its Music In Mundy Outdoor Concert Series, next featuring Los Straitjackets on Aug. 27.
The artists, described as “The fastest surf rock band in the West,” will bring their sights and sounds to The Venue on Friday, a news release stated. Formed in Nashville, Tennessee, Los Straitjackets jumped the surf rock craze that was revitalized post “Pulp Fiction.” Though the band is not limited to surf rock, their music resonated.
At one show early in the band’s career, they decided to wear matching suits, Aztec medallions and personalized Mexican wrestling masks, and the crowd went wild. A tradition was born. Fifteen albums and two live albums have seen the band lighting up audiences from coast to coast.
Los Straitjackets will be live and outside in Mundy Park starting at 8 p.m. General admission terrace tickets cost $30, and lawn seating is $25. All prices increase by $5 at the door.
Agnes Mundy Park, adjacent to The Venue, is an outdoor space ideal for presenting shows and adhering to current COVID-19 safety guidelines, the release stated. In the event of severe weather, shows may be moved indoors at the request of the artist (see safety policy below). Information and show schedules can be found at themusicvenue.org.
The Venue is owned and operated by the nonprofit Fox Valley Music Foundation; visit themusicvenue.org or foxvalleymusicfoundation.com.
COVID-19 update
In an effort to keep patrons, musicians and staff healthy, The Venue will follow state mandates and protocols set forth by the Centers for Disease Control, Kane County Health Department and city of Aurora, according to the release. Whether fully vaccinated, or unvaccinated, attending a crowded outdoor event, [such as] a live music performance, poses risk, the release stated. Patrons entering The Venue do so at their own risk.
In the event of bad weather, shows may be moved indoors at the discretion of the artists. If this happens, ticket buyers will be notified through Eventbrite and The Venue’s Facebook page. With COVID rates rising in Illinois, if it is necessary to move indoors, The Venue will strictly enforce its mask policy.
For outside shows, masks are required for entry unless proof of vaccination can be provided. Outside, masks may be removed, although wearing of masks is encouraged along with social distancing. Indoors, masks are required at all times. Upon proof of vaccination on entry, guests will receive a sticker showing their vaccination status, and may remove their masks when seated.
“All guests are encouraged to cooperate for the greater good so that we can continue to share live music safely,” the release stated.
