CHIP IN Batavia and Batavia Public Library to host Prom Dress Giveaway

CHIP IN Batavia and the Batavia Public Library will hold their Prom Dress Giveaway from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 22, and 12:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at the library, located at 10 S. Batavia Ave.

CHIP IN’s mission is to support low-income and homeless families in Batavia, but this event is open to all students, regardless of financial need. The goal is to ensure every student can experience prom without being held back by the high costs typically associated with it, according to a news release from the nonprofit.

Clean prom dresses in good to excellent condition, as well as shoes, purses, jewelry, new makeup and accessories may be dropped off at the library’s Check Out Desk from Feb. 1 through March 20.

New this year, every student who visits the event will be entered in a raffle for a gift basket containing a gift certificate from Batavia’s Special Occasions on the Avenue, valued at $250.

Monetary donations are greatly appreciated and will be used to pay for tuxedo rentals and prom tickets for Batavia students, according to the release. Checks should be made payable to the Batavia Foundation for Educational Excellence with “CHIP IN Batavia” written on the memo line.

Dress racks for drop-off will be available near the Check Out Desk, as well as tax donation letters.

In 2024, CHIP IN provided more than 800 dresses to students in more than 40 schools and five charities.

The Batavia Public Library is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
