DeKalb police investigating attempted armed robbery in Annie Glidden North neighborhood

DeKALB – DeKalb police arrested one juvenile following an attempted armed robbery early Monday in the Annie Glidden North neighborhood, and have identified the second suspect, who fled after a traffic stop.

DeKalb Acting Police Chief Bob Redel said shortly before 2 a.m., a man approached police officers in the 7-Eleven parking lot and said someone tried to rob him while he was walking on Hillcrest Drive nearby. He then pointed out a car, which officers stopped a short time later.

Redel said the officers determined the car was stolen from Aurora. He said a 15-year-old male juvenile from Aurora, the driver of the car, was arrested for reckless driving, speeding, eluding police, resisting arrest, possession of a stolen vehicle and driving without a driver’s license.

“And then the passenger got out of the car and took off running,” Redel said.

Redel said the attempted robbery was allegedly made with a gun.

“We did not locate a gun,” Redel said.

Redel’s comments come after the following City of DeKalb text alert was sent to residents and community members at 2:41 a.m. Monday: “A weapons offense occurred at 900 North Annie Glidden. Police are investigating. The suspect is described as a male wearing a Bears jersey and black shorts.”

Redel said the description provided in the text alert was of the juvenile passenger, also from Aurora, who fled on foot after the vehicle was stopped.

“He was identified and future charges against the juvenile are expected to be filed,” Redel said.

Redel said there were no reported injuries or property damage related to the incident.
